Do you ever want to eat out, yet have control over every ingredient in your meal?
I know a place where you can hand-pick every item that goes into lunch or dinner – meat, vegetables, sauce, and seasonings. You can determine the prevailing flavor or level of spiciness of what you eat.
- Love meat? You can pick from beef, chicken, pork, or seafood, with a few choices of each.
- Need your veggies? The choices include many common vegetables to put in your meal, and a few uncommon ones.
- Do you like delicate flavors, or a challenging burst to your taste-buds? There are more than a dozen sauces to choose from, and you can even mix them up! Then add a spice, such as chili powder, for a final touch.
Sounds like a lot of work, doesn’t it? A lot of grocery shopping, prep time, and cooking would be involved to do that at home. And for everyone in your family to eat what they want? You can’t possibly please everyone, and not break the bank!
But you can. And for less than $20 a person.
Before I tell you how, let me sweeten the pot. After picking out what you want to eat, you get to watch someone else cook it!
There aren’t many restaurants like this – yet.
You need to find the nearest Bd’s Mongolian Grill. Founded in Michigan in 1992, this Midwestern chain now has the first American-franchised restaurant in Mongolia. It’s based on an historical legend of Mongolian warriors cooking food on their shields over an open fire.
The host or hostess will seat you, take your drink order, and set you loose. There are three large buffet tables, where you’ll pick up a bowl to fill with the ingredients for your meal. There are also recipe cards to follow, if you want to put together a tried-and-true favorite.
The first table is meats, and a few different kinds of noodles to use for starch. The next table holds a plethora of vegetables to choose from. The third table has a multitude of sauces (which you can sample) and spices to combine in a smaller bowl, to polish your culinary masterpiece.
Then take your overflowing bowl to the circular flat grill. One of the chefs will take your meat and veggies bowl, and pour the contents onto the hot surface, which reaches 600 degrees Fahrenheit (300 Celsius). They stir the ingredients as they cook, cutting large pieces as needed. Once cooked, they add your bowl of sauce and spices. When done, they scoop your food onto a clean dish, and voila´!
Back at your table, the waitress will have left white or brown rice, tortillas, or lettuce wraps, according to your wishes. Enjoy your custom meal!
But suppose you have special dietary choices or restrictions? Bd’s Mongolian Grill have provided for many considerations, including:
- Special recipe cards to follow for vegetarian, gluten-free, high protein, and high fiber diets
- Nutrition guides and allergy warnings for each item
- Careful attention on the grill to separate vegetarian meals from any contact with meats, including grease
You can also get appetizers, salad and soup, and desserts. And there is a traditional menu available for the less adventurous diner.
Once you try it, the whole family will want to make every Friday night a Bd’s Mongolian Grill night! You can have fun customizing your dinner, enjoy the chefs’ antics as they cook for you, and not empty your wallet.
I know you’ll enjoy it as much as I do, even if you’re a picky eater like me.
